Cantiere Navale Donoratico, established in 1946 by the Count Gaddo della Gherardesca on his grounds in front of the the sea, is still mentioned today for its past in the boat racing, its specialization field, and also for the realization of the yachting.
A careful detailed renovation project has turned Cantiere Navale Donoratico into a tourist facility suitable for the environment-lovers and for those who are very fond of the territory. The tourist facility covers a 25-hectare surface consisting of sand dunes, standard cluster pines and the typical Mediterranean vegetation, where a colony of deers has been recently introduced.
It is a wonderful three-star superior tourist facility consisting of eight buildings located inside a pinewood on the seashore closed to the car traffic.
At the three-storey building called “La Vela”, used as service centre for reception and hospitality, there are swimming-pool, coffee bar, restaurant with sea view terrace, self-service pizzeria, children's restaurant, supermarket and ice-cream shop.
Rooms and flats are located in small two-storey or three-storey buildings surrounded by the vegetation and they are furnished with love of details to offer the guests the utmost comfort according to environment-friendly criteria. In fact the tourist facility is equipped with a photovoltaic plant, which makes it completely self-sufficient from the energy point of view.
The wide 10-km long beach with fine sand is located in the heart of the purest Maremma, while the sea, which was awarded the European blue flag, sinks gradually and offers the bathers more safety.
